6500 Mile Start

Hello all! Welcome to our travel blog (blogging is still cool, right?)- regardless, here we are! We have just returned home from an incredible, memory-making adventure and we’re kicking off this site with pics, stories and travel tips from our 6500 mile journey through 16 states to see the American treasures of Custer State Park and the Black Hills, Yellowstone National Park, The Grand Tetons and The Grand Canyon. We even managed to squeeze in a quick day trip to Roswell, New Mexico to feed our bellies and our sci-fi nerd souls.

For the first leg of our trip, we left from our home in Holiday, FL and made our way to Nashville. This was our first time in music city and the energy of Nashville is off the scales. In fact, the first thing Brian and I did after seeing the city for the first time was look at each and go “oh yeah, we’re definitely coming back here without the kids”- and we most certainly will at some point.

We only had the night in Nashville and my bunk mate from Army basic training lives in Tennessee- so I never pass up the chance to see her when I’m passing through the state. Kerry met us for dinner at Johnny Cash’s Bar and BBQ, then Brian and the boys went back to the RV. Nashville at night gets a bit chaotic and the boys were a bit overwhelmed.

Kerry and I meandered into another bar for a quick drink- her taser wasn’t welcome inside the establishments so it had to stay with the door guys. However, after one $24 dollar round (consisting of only 2 drinks) and about an hour of having our personal space wildly invaded- we called it quits.

All in all we really enjoyed our time there, the Blackberry Moonshine at Johnny Cash’s alone is a worth a trip back. The bars are filled with vivacious 20-somethings and bachelorette parties- you definitely have to be in a “let’s get drunk and make bad decisions” kind of mood to not be a drag. Maybe next time. Chances are, we’ll go back and take in all the sites during the day, then be tucked snuggly into bed by the time the fun people come out to play.

This time around, I said goodbye to my battle buddy and was tucked snuggly into the RV around 10pm. We all got a decent night sleep and hit the road early the next morning.

The next post will cover the trek from Nashville to a gas station somewhere in the middle of a corn field in Nebraska. Stay tuned for all the excitement.
